With offices across New Zealand, Australia, the USA and Europe, Skellerup found it a challenge to keep its 700 staff feeling connected and informed. The company needed a way of talking to its employees that not only kept them up to date with developments, but also provided the organisation with a way to reinforce important company messages.
The solution:
Convergence completed a communications audit for Skellerup that determined what sort of information staff wanted to receive, and in what format. Using the results of this audit as a starting point, we then developed an internal newsletter, working closely with the Managing Director to ensure not only the content but also the ‘look and feel’ reflected the company’s values and vision.
Managing this newsletter involves sourcing story ideas, conducting interviews, researching and then writing articles in a style that suits the audience. We also work closely with graphic designers and printers to organise the production and printing.
‘Company Connector’ has proved to be an extremely successful communications device and is now produced bi-monthly. It is distributed to staff in hard copy and is also available on Skellerup’s intranet.
We surveyed all staff on the effectiveness of our bi-monthly Company Connector and were pleased to learn that 90% of respondents said it was achieving Skellerup’s communication goals well or very well. Articles on success in the market place, new products and company direction rated the most interest. These were followed by profiles on the different business units, company performance and staff profiles.
