A conflict of interest for a Wellington PR consultancy meant Convergence took over Pike River Coal’s media phone a few weeks after the disaster and up until the company went into receivership. During this period we supported Pike River Coal by providing team cover across a range of high pressure media-related issues. Broadly this was split into, 1) developing a strategy designed to minimise the amount of time the company’s CEO and Chair were dealing with media, 2) fielding media calls and communicating the new strategy to them, and 3) risk analysis of all existing and potential / impending issues and providing strategic advisory to the CEO around each.
