The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is New Zealand’s largest aviation training provider with 11 leading aviation schools under its umbrella. Currently more than half of this country’s pilots are trained by the group.
In 2007 NMIT approached Convergence to develop a Communications Strategy that would raise the profile of its aviation programme to a variety of audiences including regulatory authorities, the aviation industry and potential students. Another objective was to present the pilot training providers and NMIT as being one cohesive network.
The solution:
Convergence developed and implemented a deliberate, planned and sustained communications campaign that has improved understanding and awareness between NMIT, training providers and their key stakeholders. This included assisting NMIT to engage with government, culminating in the official launch of the NMIT Aviation Network in late 2007 by the Hon. Harry Duynhoven, Minister for Transport Safety.
In addition to organising the Wellington event Convergence has undertaken media training and issues management workshops as well as managing the development of a new brand, corporate profile, quarterly newsletter, and regular advertising and media relations activity.
We were really impressed at how quickly Convergence came to understand the complexity of the aviation training sector and especially that Erin was able to engage the CEOs from each of the 12 providers that make up the NMIT Aviation Network.
We found Convergence to be both proactive and professional. They produced a strategy and materials to a very high standard, something that was challenging due to the need to achieve buy-in from such a large and diverse group that, while they share a common aviation training goal, are quite independent businesses.
