For the last three years Mercury Energy has employed Convergence Communications to leverage its high profile naming rights sponsorship of the Tactix (Canterbury/Westland’s ANZ Trans Tasman Netball Championship franchise). We managed the Tactix Facebook page, signage and other collateral at home games; sourced ball girls; developed and distributed collectible ‘player cards’; distributed tickets to Mercury customers; and managed the Mercury Men who spoiled Mercury customers in the Mercury Energy Fanzone Stand.

Following the earthquake on 4 September last year Mercury, through Convergence, responded to customers needs one-on-one. We hired and managed a team of home handymen to dig silt from backyards and to remove broken chimneys and damaged furnishings – all free of charge.

The tragic events of February 2011 interrupted the Tactix season and Mercury Energy turned its attention to helping the efforts of the Student Volunteer Army. We provided Sam Johnson and his team with a media advisor 24/7 in the fortnight after the earthquake. Mercury was so impressed with the efforts of the Army it made a substantial donation to ensure the Sam and his team could continue to help those affected by aftershocks and inspire students across the country to be voluntarily involved in their communities.
