Daniel O'Regan

One of two media specialists in the Convergence Christchurch office, Daniel knows the strategies journalists employ to get the story, what media coverage can and can’t achieve and what gets a journalist going. He prides himself on spotting issues that others overlook, and enjoys putting complex information into language that everyday Kiwis use and understand.

Originally trained in print journalism Daniel has spent the majority of his career in radio newsrooms in Wellington, Napier, Christchurch and Ireland. Most recently he was Chief Reporter for Newstalk ZB in Christchurch, a management role that saw him responsible for the Christchurch news team and overseeing the work of six other South Island journalists.

Under his guidance Daniel managed a fast and efficient newsroom that broke stories, questioned both local and national leaders and reported on large and small events of importance. In the course of his career he has instructed and trained countless journalists and helped select journalism students for the Christchurch Broadcasting School. His former staff and trainees now work in radio, television and public relations throughout New Zealand and Australia.

Daniel is well known for his on-air work including a daily 5.30 Live spot on Newstalk ZB, broadcast nationally, where he would discuss the news and issues of importance facing Cantabrians.

He currently works with Convergence clients Izone, Mercury Energy Tactix, Lincoln University Foundation and South Island Agricultural Field Days. Daniel also undertakes pro bono work for DebRA New Zealand – visit www.debra.org.nz to learn more about this charity which helps some of New Zealand’s bravest children.
